The CalorieKing Food Search Web Service is an innovative offering from CalorieKing Solutions which allows you to integrate the 20,000 item CalorieKing Food Database into your website or web-based application.
Our web service allows your web application to fully access the CalorieKing food search engine and nutrition database completely through the back-end of your system; with no visibility to the end user, and giving you maximum flexibility and control. At the same time, your development team isn’t burdened with database management and updates as well as search engine development; two things that CalorieKing specialise in. You’ll get access to the same technology that powers CalorieKing.com.au - one of the web’s most relied upon sources for nutritional information and food search. The possibilities are endless, from providing food search on a website; to generating food analysis and online web applications which integrate nutrition data. Advantages of our Web Service
An Example To understand how our web service works, we’ll use the example of a company trying to produce a web application which allows diabetics to track their carbohydrate intake. A central feature of such a system would be a comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date food database with carbohydrate information. With traditional data licensing the company would have to pay a large up-front fee to license the food database; keep paying to having it kept up-to-date and also manage the database system to house the data. The company would also have to develop technology to allow people to search for foods easily. With a web service, all these concerns are managed by CalorieKing. When a user wants to search for a food, the web application sends the request to CalorieKing and CalorieKing responds with a list of possible matches; all using CalorieKings’ proprietary search technology. After the user selects a food the same occurs and the Web Service now responds with usable nutrition information. All of CalorieKing's responses are transmitted in a well documented, open standard for transmitting data so there’s minimal effort required on the part of the company’s developers to use the response. How We Help You Upon application for a trial account, we will provide you with:
Pricing You will have a free one month trial to evaluate our service. The condition of this trial is that your service may not be put into production. After your trial, or if you wish to go into production before your trial period finishes, a $200 setup fee applies. From then on your service is billed at $450 per month, invoiced quarterly in advance. Your $450 a month includes 35,000 web service procedure calls. In our experience this is a significant number for most applications, and works out at 1c per procedure call. If you exceed 35,000 procedure calls in a month, you will be billed in arrears for the extra calls at the same rate of 1c per call. More About XML-RPC XML-RPC stands for Extensible Markup Language Remote Procedure Call and is based upon the universal XML standard. XML-RPC is a open, standard way for web applications to remotely request information from a third party and to obtain this information in a standard, easily understandable way. Libraries and SDKs are freely available to accelerate development time in a number of development languages such as ASP, PHP, Perl, Python, .NET, Java, Flash and C++.
